China Has a Plan to Manage its Rise. Where is OUR Plan?

ree

In “The Changing World Order: Why Nations Succeed and Fail,” Ray Dalio makes a compelling case for why and how nations rise and fall.  He argues that this process has repeated itself over and over for hundreds of years. Even the sequential stages within each boom and bust cycle are predictable and repeat themselves.

Mr. Dalio has done us a great favor.  He has allowed us to change our perspective from a short-term view of world history in terms of decades to a view of the broad sweep of history over many centuries.

After years of comprehensive research and analysis Mr. Dalio has identified 7 indicators of power change at a time of leadership transition (such as our current time):

Indicators of Power Change

·         Leadership Capabilities

·         Education Levels

·         Character/Determination

·         Corruption

·         Rule of Law

·         Resource Allocation Efficiency

·         Openness to Global Thinking

Each of these indicators can be incorporated into tangible goals and action steps in a country’s strategic plan to improve its global leadership position – or, in China’s case, to accelerate its path to becoming the new world leader.

For decades China has created, implemented, and largely achieved its goals in 5 year strategic plans.  Just having a plan virtually guarantees more progress than not having one. Where is America’s strategic plan?
